Oh Cuba, such a unique country that should be visited once in your lifetime. Before finalizing our itinerary, we decided that we would not like to squeeze many places into two weeks, but instead to take it slow and really enjoy the places that we’ve visited. So, here is what we’ve been up to during our two weeks in Cuba!
Havana
We arrived in the evening and took a taxi (our first ride in Cuba’s typical old timers!) to our accommodation. The next morning, we started our day by having breakfast at Plaza Vieja and explored the Old Town of Havana for the rest of the day. Havana is best explored by foot, we basically turned into every alley that seemed interesting to us and kept on walking and taking some Mojito breaks at random cafés. Not complaining about that!
Varadero
We spent a few days in Varadero, which is situated at the sea and about a three hours drive away from Havana. Varadero has beautiful beaches and is the ideal place to relax. However, you should be aware that Varadero is not an authentic Cuba experience, as it is full of resorts and rather a touristy place. We basically spent all day tanning by the beach and the pool while having Daiquiris.
Vinales
Vinales is so different from Havana and Varadero! It’s a small town surrounded by stunning nature, huge rock formations and known for its tobacco plantations. One day, we booked a horse back riding tour with a local and explored the area, stopped by a tobacco farm to learn about making cigars and also headed to a lake for a quick dip. One of my highlights in Cuba! I would say that about 2-3 days are enough time to discover Vinales.
Havana
Back in Havana, we checked into the most beautiful villa: Villa Flora! We spent our mornings enjoying breakfast in the garden and taking a dip into the pool, before making our way to Old Havana (also called Havana Vieja). This time we visited the Revolution Museum, strolled around Centro Habana, had dinner in supposely the best restaurant of Havana, La Guarida (reaally good!) and of course had a few more mojitos and daiquiris! Overall, we spent five nights in Havana, which is enough to explore the city and get a feel of it.
