It is about two months ago that I left my life in Berlin including my family, friends and my dog (I miss you, Jack!) behind me and moved to Istanbul to start a new adventure abroad. Berlin is my hometown and it will certainly always hold a special place in my heart. So, I guess it’s natural to feel homesick once in a while. Don’t get me wrong, I love my new life in Istanbul, but there are certain things that I miss about Berlin.
Berlin is tiny compared to Istanbul.
I would describe myself as a city girl. I love living in bustling places that always surprise you when turning around the next corner. However, Istanbul is a whole other dimension. Berlin seems like a village next to Istanbul. If you have been to both cities, then you know what I talk about. I miss getting from one place to another quickly.
Berlin has an amazing food scene.
There are constantly amazing restaurants and cafés popping out on every corner of Berlin. With all the street food markets becoming a thing in Berlin, you can eat all kinds of food from all over the globe. It’s like traveling but food wise. Moreover, there are a bunch of great vegetarian and vegan places. I miss my quinoa salads and smoothie bowls. And sushi!
Berlin, Christmas is coming!
I know, it’s not even December yet, but I love Christmas time in Berlin. There are bright lights and decorations across the whole city, you eat way too much food, spend some quality time with your loved ones and drink tasty mulled wine at Christmas markets to keep warm. Well, as you know there are no Christmas festivities in Turkey. I will miss the festive season.
What things do you miss about home when being abroad?
