Recently, I wrote an article on how to have a staycation when you can’t travel. Perfectly timed with this article, I had the pleasure to have my own staycation at the Sofitel Hotel in Berlin. The highlights were plentiful during my two-night stay: from experiencing fine French cuisine to gazing over the skyline of Berlin at sunset. My first highlight occurred right at check in: I was delighted to hear about my upgrade to the Opera Suite on the 10th floor – it couldn’t get any better!
A Quick Overview
The Sofitel Hotel Kurfürstendamm in Berlin is a 5 star property located right at the heart of the western part of Berlin near the shopping boulevard Kurfürstendamm. When entering the modern looking building that immediately catches one’s eye, the staff will greet with a friendly ‘bonjour’. The contemporary interior is complemented by warm colors and French elegance that create a luxurious atmosphere. You will also noticed that there are pieces of art throughout the whole hotel.
The Room (and the View)
When stepping into the Opera suite, the huge windows filled the entire place with sunlight and my first thought was: “The receptionist did not promise too much!” There were two things that took immediately my breath away when entering the suite. Firstly, the size. Every room was spacious and the suite felt more like an apartment than an actual room. The second thing that impressed me, was the incredible panoramic view. The majority of buildings in Berlin are rather low, so that I could enjoy an unobstructed view of the Kurfürstendamm and also the Potsdamer Platz.
The suite comes with a living room that includes the dining area, a bed room and two bath rooms (yes, two!). The neutral color palette, which was completed with some pops of red, and the paintings emphasized the sophisticated appearance of the interior. The rooms were outfitted with custom designed furniture, two flat screen TVs, a mini bar, a Nespresso machine and a welcoming fruit platter.
As the night slowly falls over Berlin, the true beauty of the suite is revealed. I couldn’t keep my eyes of that view! Be sure to book one of the suites, if you want to a enjoy room with an exceptional view.
The master bathroom was just a spacious and contemporary as the rest of the suite. It featured a double sink, a separate shower and luxurious Hermès amenities. The highlight of the bathroom was the luxurious freestanding bath tub, which is the ideal place for a relaxed evening. The glass bathroom wall comes with a special feature: it turns transparent, when turnt on.
Fine Dining at Le Faubourg
The hotel’s signature restaurant Le Faubourg is home to French cuisine that approaches food in a modern and a traditional way. As this was my first fine dining experience, I was quite excited when me and my partner got invited to have a four course dinner with accompanying wines in Le Faubourg.
After being welcomed by the staff and lead to our table, the evening started with a glass of champagne. Cheers! The welcoming dish from the chef was followed by two appetizers, a soup, the main dish and finally the dessert. The dishes were all full of flavor and the portion sizes were generous.
This experience exceeded my expectations, as each course was created with such an attention to detail and due to the staff, who has gone above and beyond to ensure that guests were completely pleased throughout the evening.
Facilities and Services
Breakfast is being served at the Restaurant St. Germain on the first floor. The buffet offers a wide range of cold and some warm dishes, fresh fruits and juices, a lot of cheese and of course pastries. If wished, a chef will prepare omelettes, pancakes or waffles according to your preferences. Yummy!
Being a luxury hotel, the Sofitel Berlin offers its guests a gym with standard equipment free of charge. A spa is situated right next to the gym area and includes a dry sauna, a steam room, a foot bath and also an ice bath to cool down. If you are in for a complete treatment, be sure to book a relaxing massage.
On our first evening, we enjoyed the so-called Sofitel Chic Apéro at the lobby bar. The Chic Apéro is an interpretation of a cocktail hour that is inspired by the hotel’s French roots. The waiter brought us this evening’s cocktail creation, a delicious summery champagne cocktail, and some nibbles.
Booking a suite in the Sofitel Hotel Kurfürstendamm comes with the additional perk of being invited to join the hotel’s Club Lounge at any time. This executive lounge is located on the 11th floor and boosts with a spectacular view of Berlin. Guests can enjoy breakfast, afternoon tea and cake and snacks throughout the day in a relaxed setting.
The Sofitel Hotel Kurfürstendamm convinces its guests with spectacular views, memorable dining experiences and a more than welcoming staff. This accommodation is the ideal place for first-time visitors of Berlin, as well as returning travelers, due to its convenient location. The French charm of the Sofitel Hotel and its contemporary design make this luxury stay extra special. I couldn’t have asked for a better staycation!
Thank you to the Sofitel Hotel Kurfürstendamm for hosting me! The opinions expressed on this blog are always my own.
