Long white sand beaches, coconut palm trees and sparkling crystal clear waters – an island paradise called LUX* South Ari Atoll in the Maldives. When I laid my eyes on this picturesque place for the first time, I had to pinch myself. It comes at no surprise that the Maldives are a dream destination for many.
Quick Overview
LUX* South Ari Atoll is a five star luxury resort that is situated amid the Indian Ocean in the Maldives. The two kilometer long island hosts 193 villas over the water and on the ground between lush greenery. The resort was recently re-opened, as they gave the whole island a fresh and modern look. The design concept ‘lighter and brighter’ was implemented with chic, playful and white elements.
Location & Transfer
After check-in, we have been taken to the LUX* private airport lounge. While waiting for the flight, we enjoyed some snacks and drinks from the buffet and had a chance to relax for a while. Bathroom facilities and complimentary Wi-Fi are available as well.
From Malé, the flight takes about twenty minutes. Taking a seaplane for the first time was a fun and exciting experience. During the whole flight I was glued to the window. The view of the tropical scenery was breathtaking. We spotted many beautiful islands and reefs. As the plane approached LUX*, you could see the staff waving and being ready to personally welcome you.
The Beach Villa
We stayed two nights in a chic and spacious beach villa. The bungalow was well appointed with a king size bed, a work desk, a mini bar (including daily complimentary water), tea and coffee making facilities, a flat screen television and a furnished terrace. Overall, the interior had a modern look with a cosy vibe. The highlight of the villa was the sea view and the direct access to the beach. A dream for beach lovers!
The bathroom was just as spacious as the living area. It included LUX* amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. My favorite feature of the bathroom was without a doubt the huge outdoor bathtub. Pure luxury!
The Breakfast
Breakfast is being served at two buffet restaurants – at the international restaurant Mixe and the Asian-inspired restaurant East Market. Mixe offers its guests a wide selection of homemade pastries (including gluten free options), fresh fruits, cereals, a variety of cold and warm dishes, homemade juices and much more. Furthermore, chefs will prepare freshly made waffles, pancakes and crepes as well as egg dishes according to your preferences.
Breakfast at East Market has the best picks of the international buffet combined with delicious Asian goodies. Dim sum, stir fries, soups and other specialties from the Asian cuisine are available. The restaurant is beautifully set up with wooden interior and influenced by South East Asia.
Restaurants & Food
When you’re a foodie, then the LUX* South Ari Atoll will have you spoilt for choices. You can choose between seven eateries and five bars during your stay. Each restaurant boasts with global inspired dishes.
Umami is the resort’s stylish Japanese restaurant, Italian dishes can be enjoyed at Allegria and Senses is full of oriental and Indian flavors. The East Market resembles a bustling local night market in South East Asia and serves meals in the morning and the evening. If you’re a coffee addict, then the island’s own roasted coffee at Café LUX* will be right up your alley. Additionally, ICI offers homemade ice cream with some unique flavors.
Beach Rouge is the picture-perfect lunch spot, as it boasts an incredible view of the blue and turquoise waters. This beach club offers small international dishes that match every taste. I can recommend the grilled tuna, the parmesan truffle fries and the heavenly chocolate dessert. So good!
Facilities & Services
Besides sunbathing on a deserted beach or enjoying a fruity cocktail at the infinity pool, you will find plenty of things to do.
The island’s house reef is situated ten minutes away by boot. Daily complimentary snorkeling tours are available. The area around LUX* is known to be home to whale sharks all year around. A marine biologist accompanies the underwater adventures to fully complete the experience. Unfortunately, there were no whale sharks around during our stay.
If you’re feeling active during the holidays, then you can choose between a tennis court, a well-equipped indoor fitness centre and tons of water sport activities. Every morning at sunrise yoga is taking place next to the beach.
Other facilities at the LUX* South Ari Atoll include the resort’s spa LUX* Me, the Wanderlust library and the Cinema Paradiso, which is an outdoor cinema under the stars. Doesn’t this sound dreamy?
The Tree of Wishes is inspired by a Maldivian tradition. To make your wish come true, write it on a red ribbon, hang it on the tree and magic will do the rest.
I quickly fell in love with this resort due to its private atmosphere, the stylish design and the tranquility without having any dull moments. The ever smiling staff members are commited to make your stay as carefree as possible. It really impressed me how much thought goes into every detail.
If you’re looking for a luxurious and remote island accommodation in the Maldives, then the LUX* should be your first choice. A stay at LUX* South Ari Atoll is full of surprises, which makes your Maldivian experience even more magical.
Thank you to the LUX* South Ari Atoll for hosting me! The opinions expressed on this blog are always my own.
