The Maldives are one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in the world. After traveling to this picturesque country with my boyfriend, I could easily understand why many newlyweds choose to spent their first days as husband and wife in this place. Here is what a romantic getaway looks like at Kurumba in the Maldives:
Quick Overview
The 5-star resort Kurumba was the very first private island resort in the Maldives. The 180 rooms and villas are all situated on the island between lush greenery and coconut palm trees. The island is surrounded by long stretches of white sand beaches, turquoise water and its own house reef. To complete the relaxing holiday setting, there are hammocks spreaded across the island.
Location & Transfer
The island is situated close to Malé and the airport. Due to its convenient location, guests arrive quickly and without a hassle in paradise. The transfer by private or shared speed boat takes about 10 minutes. The check in process was smoothly and we were greeted with delicious coconut sorbet, which was a nice touch.
The Bungalow
My boyfriend and I stayed two nights in the deluxe bungalow that is set in a tropical grove and enjoys a distant view of the ocean. Upon entering the bungalow, you will find a closet, a mini bar and coffee, tea and even hot chocolate making facilities. The spacious bedroom features a king sized bed, a flat screen television, a work desk and a day bed. The bungalow is fitted out in warm tones and with wooden elements.
Taking a step out of the bedroom, you will find yourself on a small furnished terrace. A nice feature at Kurumba: Each room has their own sun loungers at the beach to ensure a carefree and relaxing beach day.
The bathroom was just as generous in size as the room. It includes double vanities, complimentary Kurumba amenities, an indoor shower, a bathtub and a beautiful outdoor shower. The outdoor shower felt like pure luxury and added a tropical atmosphere to the bungalow.
Restaurants & Food
Kurumba offers its guests eight restaurants and several cafés and bars. From Indian, to Italian to Oriental, Japanese and more, all kind of flavors to match all preferences. The buffet style restaurant Vihamanaa serves international dishes for breakfast and lunch and a daily themed buffet for dinner.
Thila is the island’s signature restaurant that is open for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is being served à la carte and a small buffet with all necessities is provided as well. In the evening, they serve freshly caught seafood and grilled meat. Besides the delicious food, I really liked the chic and sophisticated design of the restaurant.
A Candlelight Dinner
Having dinner at the ocean-front restaurant Thila was an unexpected highlight during my stay at the Kurumba Maldives. The restaurant is located directly on a beach, so that you could either have your feet in the sand or take a seat over the water.
My boyfriend and I enjoyed a four-course dinner at the most perfect dinner date location. You could hear the sound of the waves, feel a gentle sea breeze and occasionally small reef sharks would pass by. My favorite dish was the lobster tagliolini with truffle and bisque foam. So good! My boyfriend was obsessed with the wagyu beef carpaccio. The service was extraordinary at all times and the food was excellent! I couldn’t have asked for a better evening!
Facilities & Services
The Kurumba Maldives is all about providing you with a luxurious and relaxing holiday. There are two pools, a fully equipped fitness center, a kids area, tennis courts and a water sports center that also offers complimentary snorkeling equipment. Complimentary WiFi is available on the whole resort. Nothing missing here!
Daily tours are taking place to discover the incredible sealife of the Maldives. One evening, we took part in the Sunset & Dolphin Discovery Cruise. We drove about half an hour, when we spotted the first dolphin! Suddenly, there were many of them playing and jumping around the boat. It was such an exciting and fun experience to watch them in their natural environment! We later learned that these were actually pilot whales, not dolphins. A celebratory bottle of champagne was opened while the sun was setting over the Indian Ocean. Cheers to another memorable day!
A Spa Session for Two
When arriving to Kurumba Maldives I was particularly looking forward to our spa session at Veli Spa. Before our treatment, we were brought into the pre-and-post treatment room, where we were offered tea and some nuts. The spa’s modern, but cosy and idyllic setting makes it an oasis of relaxation.
We enjoyed the hotel’s one hour long signature massage, which uses hot sand and oil. The treatment will pamper you to the fullest and will leave your skin soft. This was without a doubt the most relaxing massage! Pure bliss!
When staying at Kurumba, you won’t have the illusion of staying on a secluded island, but that doesn’t make it feel less like paradise. The resort is ideal for couples and families alike, who look for a relaxing and active holiday in the Maldives. The house reef is a snorkeler’s dream, the food is outstanding and there is no shortage of activities as well as tranquility. The Kurumba Maldives presents couples a romantic getaway without the hassle of long arrivals!
Thank you to Kurumba Maldives for hosting me! The opinions expressed on this blog are always my own.
