Let’s be real here guys! I’ll be the first to admit that I occasionally indulge when traveling. I mean who can say no to delicious French macarons, Italian pizza, pasta and gelato and Pad Thai in Bangkok. We are all guilty of eating and enjoying foreign specialties a little too much, right? In order to get back on track in terms of healthy eating, I tought about trying out a juice cleanse for the first time. So, here is how my juice cleanse experience with Kale and Me went:
The Juices
Each day includes six juices, which have all been cold-pressed. This means that no heat is used in the making of the juices, so that vitamins and nutrients are not lost. There are also no additives and the juices are all plant-based. To keep the juices fresh, they should be stored in the fridge.
This was my daily selection of juices:
1. Pamela Pine: apple, pineapple, cucumber, mint, lemon
2. Catie Carrot: carrot, apple, lemon
3. Al Avoca: pineapple, avocado, spinach, lemon
4. Rosy Roots: beet root, ginger, apple, carrot, lemon
5. Kalvin Kale: apple, lemon, cucumber, spinach, celery, kale
6. Amy Almond: water, almond, dates, salt
I was often asked, if the juices actually taste good. And yes, there are super delicious! Although I drink smoothies on a regular basis, I’ve never had a green smoothie or juice before, so that I was a little curious how I would like it. I was surprised that the juices that included lots of veggies like #3 and #5, were very tasty and didn’t taste like its ingredients. My boyfriend aka a person who is not into chia puddings, raw bars and detox anything tried some of the juices and (to my surprise) he really liked them! His favorite pick was juice #1 – Pamela Pine.
The Three Day Cleanse
In order to prepare for the juice cleanse, it is recommended to eat lees carbs and sugar and to drink more. So, that is exactly what I did. During the juice cleanse, you are supposed to drink one juice every two hours as well as drink about 2-3 liter of water and tea.
I expected that the first day would be the toughest and that I would feel hungry eventually. However, to my surprise I wasn’t hungry at all as the juices are very filling. On day two and three, I felt super energized, too. Although I wasn’t really hungry during the cleanse, I was craving a warm meal. So, each day I had a vegetable broth, which left me full and satisfied. If you do feel hungry, you are allowed to have a vegetable broth or a banana.
So, what was the bottom line? The juices are delicious, refreshing and filling. I did loose a little weight (which was probably water weight). However, the biggest advantage for me was that I was able to minimize my sugar cravings, felt energized and was able to continue eating healthy again. So, yes I would definitely do it again!
