It is no secret that most twenty-somethings love to brunch – brunch = breakfast + lunch! Numerous reasons to love this 2-in-1 meal exist: you can sleep in, there are endless sweet and savory food options (and even desserts), you meet your girlfriends to chat about last nights scandals and it’s the perfect way to start the day.
I admit that I am a total brunch lover! Luckily, there are countless places to have breakfast and brunch in Berlin. Especially Prenzlauer Berg, Mitte and Friedrichshain have a lot to offer. Although I brunched in a lot of places, there is still so much to discover (and to eat). Here are my favorite breakfast and brunch picks in Berlin:
Napoljonska
This is my current favorite place to brunch! It’s a little vegetarian café near lively Rosenthaler Platz with other great restaurant and shops close-by. This cute location uses mainly organic ingredients and most of their jams, cakes, pastes and other dishes are homemade. In addition, you can order delicious (and super healthy) fresh pressed juices, which I absolutely love and waffles on the weekends. Did I mention that Napoljonska serves also a vegan-friendly brunch plate? Especially lovers of everything sweet will enjoy this place! Be sure to make a reservation on the weekends.
Kastanienallee 43, 10119 Berlin – Mitte
Daluma
If you’re a healthy foodie, then Daluma is the place to go! Endless options of colorful smoothies, delicious acai bowls, chia pudding and other breakfast options will await you. Daluma is all about vegan and raw food! My favorites are the Dr. Feel Good Smoothie, the Acai Smooth Bowl and quinoa with the almond-lime dressing, if you would like to eat something savory. It’s the hot spot for a all things healthy in Berlin!
Weinbergsweg 3, 10119 Berlin – Mitte
Sowohlalsauch
It is no coincidence that this café is well-known among brunch-lovers in Berlin. Sowohlalsauch offers a variety of plates for all tastes and preferences, all named after different cities (hello wanderlust!). However, the most important advice that I can give you: try at least one of their mouth-watering cakes! You can choose between countless homemade goodies: carrot cake, blueberry pie, different kinds of cheese cakes, cherry streusel cake or Sacher cake to name a few. Now I’m craving for it.
Kollwitzstraße 88, 10435 Berlin – Prenzlauer Berg
Merkez Simit Evi
Tired of standard breakfast options? Or do you desire a quick escape to a different country? If your answer to one of these questions is yes, then this one is for you! This Turkish breakfast place is hidden in a quiet backyard near Kottbusser Tor. They serve savory and sweet homemade Turkish dishes and Turkish drinks as well. Above you can see the cheese plate and the Mediterranean plate. Yummy!
Adalbertstr 7, 10999 Berlin Kreuzberg
Roamers
Roamers is a true gem in Neukölln! Their instagrammable interior, their delicious dishes (like the avocado bread with poached egg, feta cheese and salmon) and the great coffee make it undoubtedly one of Berlins hippest breakfast places. Unfortunately, they don’t accept reservations, so that you should make sure to plan enough waiting time. The line can get pretty long on the weekends.
Pannierstraße 64, 12043 Berlin – Neukölln
Zuckerfee
Located in brunch-loving Prenzlauerberg is this charming café and it’s name says it all! Zuckerfee means sugar fairy so you can expect a lot of sugary choices like waffles, pancakes or homemade jams. Of course, they serve savory dishes like scrambled eggs and or typical English breakfast. My favorite is the Sugarplum Fairy breakfast, which combines both. Worth mentioning are the pralines and cakes that look absolutely dainty.
Greifenhagener Straße 15, 10437 Berlin – Prenzlauer Berg
Kuchenrausch
Isn’t this picture enough to convince you? If not, then here are some more information. Kuchenrausch offers a huge variety of breakfast options and something for everyone’s preferences. If you plan to go brunching with your family, then this is the place to go. It’s tasty, has more to offer than breakfast and it has a nice ambience especially during the summer. Quick side note: they serve homemade cake (leave some space for it!).
Simon-Dach-Str. 1, 10245 Berlin – Friedrichshain
Other great places to have brunch and breakfast include:
- SETS, Schlüterstr. 36, 10629 Berlin – Wilmersdorf
- Tomasa, several locations in Berlin including Schöneberg, Kreuzberg, Steglitz
Do you like to brunch? Or do you prefer a simple bowl of cereals for breakfast?
