As I am typing this blog post, I am sitting on a plane and watching how the sun beautifully sets. I am currently on my way back to Istanbul, after I spent the holidays with my family at home in Berlin. It has been a whirlwind year, especially since I moved to Istanbul to study abroad. I have visited a new content, several cities that I haven’t been to before and I had some amazing experiences while traveling. Here are my top five favorite travel moments of 2015!
1. Snorkeling with dolphins in the Red Sea
Swimming with dolphins in the open sea was definitely a bucket list moment. When in Egypt, I booked a day trip to snorkel with dolphins in their natural environment. Luckily, we spotted a big group of them after riding a boat for about two hours. Right before jumping in the water, I was super excited because I have never seen dolphins so close before. This was one of my favorite experiences this year!
2. Surprising my boyfriend in Milan
In June, I surprised my boyfriend with a little getaway to Milan for his birthday. He did not expect that at all! Over the weekend we tried to see (and eat) as much as we could. From gazing at the Duomo, to eating too much gelato and strolling through the Navigli district. We had a packed weekend and a great time exploring Italy’s fashion capital. I can’t wait to be back!
3. Visiting Pamukkale in Turkey
Pamukkale is a must-see when traveling in Turkey! It is a completely white natural site that is made of calcium carbonate. The fluffy appearance with the turquoise terraced pools make you feel like you are walking on another planet. Pamukkale was one of the weirdest and most wonderful landscapes that I have visited in 2015.
4. Camel riding in the desert of Egypt
It was the first time that I laid foot on a desert! After exploring the desert on a quad, it was time to continue the journey on the back of a camel. The camels were part of a little Bedouin village, that we visited in the middle on nowhere. I loved how colorful the camels had been harnessed. Sitting on top of the camel overlooking the desert was an amazing travel moment.
5. Hot air ballooning in Cappadocia
Cappadocia was simply the most enchanting place that I have visited this year. Cappadocia is located in Turkey and is known for its otherworldly landscape that is best explored from a up in the sky. In November, I had the pleasure to fly in a hot air balloon over Cappadocia during the sunrise. It was the most magical travel moment that you could imagine.
