Whether I am packing for a busy city trip, a little adventure or a relaxing beach vacation, there are a few things that always end up in my suitcase. Beyond the basics like my passport, I have some travel essentials that I can’t travel without. So, today I give you a glimpse into my bag and show you my top six picks.
1. iPhone
First things first, I can’t travel anywhere without my phone! I use it to take pictures, to post on Instagram and Snapchat (follow me: girlxdeparture), to communicate with friends and family back home and I also have my boarding passes saved on it.
2. Wet Wipes
There is nothing worse than having sticky hands after eating that dripping gelato in Rome. Wet wipes are a travel necessity that I always carry with me. I have encountered many situations where they have been the most helpful item in my bag.
3. Lip Balm
I use my lip balm on a daily basis and traveling is definitely no exception. Whether you are on a plane or at the beach, your lips will eventually get dry and will be in need of some care. Having a lip balm on hand at all times is necessary and it’s a beauty item that I don’t want to miss.
4. Map
Although I do use Google Maps every now and then, there is nothing better than an actual map. Maybe I am a little bit old school, but no matter where I go, I always get my hands on a map. I mark all the locations that I want to visit and use it when I get lost (which does happen quite often).
5. Camera
Obviously, I need it to take some pretty snapshots here and there. Currently I am using the Olympus Pen Lite E-PL 7 and loving it. It is easy to handle, takes great pictures and is light to travel with.
6. Journal
I have my little black journal always with me and I basically use it to jot down ideas, notes and also my travel plans. It’s a great addition to my other travel essentials and also reflects all my travels.

I would have never thought to carry a map! That’s so interesting and maybe I’ll try it when I go on some trips this summer! 🙂
