At the end of August, I was invited to the Big Berry Lifestyle Resort in Slovenia. I’ve never been to Slovenia before and was eager to experience glamping for the first time. So, I packed my bags, took my mom with me and boarded a plane to Zagreb.
Big Berry is located along the scenic river Kulpa, which divides Croatia and Slovenia. The camp site is surrounded by lush greenery in an idyllic village called Primostek.
The Accommodation
The designer mobile houses at the resort are not your typical camping accommodation. Instead, they are full of luxurious goods: a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, a modern bathroom, designer furniture, a clever hidden TV, free Wi-Fi and a jacuzzi on the spacious terrace. Doesn’t sound much like camping, right?
Each house can accommodate two, four or six guests and they are suitable for couples, families or a group of friends.
The Breakfast
Breakfast is being delivered each morning to the terrace. Our basket was filled with homemade, local and organic goodies like yogurt, bread, honey and apple juice. It was pure bliss to sit on the terrace, sip my morning tea, enjoy the delicious breakfast and gaze upon the beautiful scenery of the camp each morning.
Life at Big Berry
So, what else is there at the Big Berry Lifestyle Resort? Besides taking a bath in the private hot tub, guests can relax on the open-air beds that are spread out across the camp site. If you feel adventurous, then grab a kayak and explore the Kulpa river. Regarding sports, Big Berry offers a volleyball field, bikes, open-air fitness facilities and needless to say, you can go swimming. There are also herbs and berries to pick and a big barbecue space. The perfect combination of relaxation and adventurous activities!
Things To Do
If you want to leave the camp and explore the surrounding area, then I can assure you that there are plenty of things to do. Here is my full itinerary of my time at Big Berry:
On my first day in Slovenia, we visited Senstrupet, a lovely little town and home to the first open-air museum of hayracks.
The day trip to Lake Bled was one of the many highlights during my stay at Big Berry. Bled is a true fairytale location that takes your breath away. Put it high up on your bucket list!
One thing that I have certainly never done before was having an oil tasting session. We tried about twenty different oils. All of them were locally produced and organic.
The beginning of the Kulpa river is a stunning hidden gem. The clear turquoise water combined with the white stone wall makes a beautiful scenery.
As I love horse back riding, I was super excited when I was told, that this would be exactly our plan for the day. The Horse Resort Stariha is located not far from the camp and a fun afternoon activity.
Visiting Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, exceeded my expectations! To be honest, I did not expect much before my visit. However, Ljubljana found a place in my heart. It is one of the most charming little towns of Europe!
Slovenia is home to some great wine, as wine making has a long tradition in this country. We had a nice wine tasting session at Suklje Winery.
Big Berry calls its lifestyle ‘luxury of freedom’. And it’s true: when staying at the Big Berry Lifestyle Resort, you can enjoy all the benefits of a luxurious and comfortable accommodation while still having the freedom to stay close to a peaceful and natural environment.
Big Berry is much more than just an accommodation. My stay showed me the beauty of Slovenia, made me appreciate even more local produced goods and I was able to meet with friendly locals, who were eager to tell me about their country and their stories. I couldn’t have asked for more!
I would recommend to stay a minimum of five days to fully take advantage of the offers at Big Berry and to explore Slovenia.
What do you think about Big Berry? Would you go glamping in Slovenia?
Thank you to Big Berry for hosting me and organizing my trip to Slovenia. All opinions and pictures are as always my own.
