With dozens of hills and a beautiful scenery, Istanbul is the perfect spot for scenic panoramic views that will mesmerize you. These view show of the true beauty of Istanbul and will make you fall in love with the city. So, here are my top eight places that will have the best view of Istanbul!
1. Pierre Loti Hill
Pierre Loti was named after a French poet and writer, who used to enjoy the incredible view over Istanbul from there. There are two ways to reach the top: one is by foot and the other one by cable car. Take the cable car, as it is way more fun! Once you’re on top of the hill, drink a Turkish tea and gaze upon Istanbul from above.
Admission: Free!
2. Galata Tower
It is not only one of the most popular sites (and my favorite) in Istanbul, but it’s also part of Istanbuls skyline. The Galata Tower offers its visitors a stunning 360° view of the metropolis. The best time to visit is during the sunset, as Istanbul is really showing off then. Make sure that you come earlier enough due to possible long waiting lines.
Admission: 25 TL
3. Halic Bridge
This bridge and subway station is located at the so-called ‘Golden Horn’. When visiting right before sunset, you will understand where its name comes from. Take a walk along the bridge and observe the ferries. Or simply, enjoy the incredible view while waiting on the subway.
Admission: Free!
4. Maiden’s Tower
The Maiden’s Tower is a famous landmark of Istanbul, which is located directly on the Bosphorus. Legends say that a Sultan put his daughter in the tower to protect her from a prophecy that had predicted her death. Nowadays, you can visit the tower by taking a little boat from Üsküdar, which is located on the Asian side.
Admission: 15 TL
5. Restaurants
Istanbul is home to numerous restaurants that are located along the coastline of the bosphors or on top of roofs. Either way, these locations will guarantee you a stunning view while sipping coffee or enjoying dinner. This photo was taken at the House Café in Ortaköy.
6. Büyük Valide Han
This place is also referred to as “secret spot” as it is quite a hidden gem. It is located near the Grand Bazaar and the best way to find it is to ask locals for directions after arriving at the Grand Bazaar. You will find yourself inside a courtyard, next take the stairs until a friendly old man will greet you. The view will take your breath away!
Admission: 1 TL
7. Camlica Hill
Among the seven hills of Istanbul, Camilla is the tallest one. It’s a hilltop park and garden on the Asian side of Istanbul that overviews the Bosphorus bridge, Ortaköy and several other well-known sites. Come here to watch the sunset or to have brunch in the morning with a bird’s-eye view over Istanbul.
Admission: Free!
8. Topkapi Palace
Set on top of a hill, this historical Ottoman Palace will offer you great views of the European and Asian side with a royal atmosphere. After having your own Ottoman experience in the Topkapi Palace, head to the café to relax and to admire the scenic view.
Admission: 40 TL
Have you visited any of these places in Istanbul? Or do you know other spots?
